Godiva Chocolate Martini

This Godiva Chocolate Martini is an indulgent boozy cocktail that is more of a dessert than a drink. It's fashioned with Godiva Dark Chocolate Liqueur, Baileys Irish Cream Liqueur, and vanilla vodka for your ultimate drinking pleasure. By every indication, here you have a grown-up chocolate lover's dream come true.

Cocktails, in general, are pretty easy and take very little time to prepare and this Chocolate Martini Recipe fits that bill to a tee. A perfect dinner party drink that feels luxurious yet can be made ahead of time for convenience's sake and leaves you enjoying your guests instead of playing bartender all night.

What is Needed for this Martini Recipe

The Alcohol - Vanilla Vodka, Irish Cream Liqueur and Dark Chocolate Liqueur

I chose vanilla vodka because it adds a nice touch to the two liqueurs (and because it was in my liquor cabinet). You can use regular vodka if that's what you have in stock.

I loved Baileys Irish Cream because it's so popular and affordable. Also, it's easily accessible. You can find it pretty much anywhere. But there are plenty of Irish Cream brands out there and any one of them will do. Some need to be stored in the refrigerator but Baileys does not. Although I do keep mine in the fridge for drinks like this that should be served chilled.

Godiva is my go-to brand when I want to satisfy my chocolate craving, so it's only fitting that I grab the bottle of Godiva Liqueur. The dark chocolate is what I went for with this Chocolate Martini Recipe because I wanted to balance the sweetness of the Irish Cream and it worked perfectly.

The Garnishments - Chocolate Syrup to Swirl and Cocktail Picks with Chocolate Truffles

Purchase a quality chocolate syrup that is thick and rich. Ghirardelli or Torani both are great options. And again I went with a dark chocolate option for the syrup. The chocolate swirl in a martini glass doesn't necessarily add flavor but it definitely adorns the cocktail with beauty and a little bit of glamor.

How to create a chocolate swirl in the Martini Glass. First of all, you need the syrup to be thick so that it doesn't end up running down the glass. A great and inexpensive tool to purchase is a plastic squeeze bottle that has a lid with a narrow tip. Start from the bottom of the glass and start squeezing the chocolate into a small pool. From the pool, while touching the glass, begin to swirl upward and around until you reach the top. It took me a bit to discover the secret to swirling. But once I figured it out, it actually was super easy. Practice a few times, you'll get the hang of it, and then you'll be a swirling superstar.

Chocolate Truffles on a cocktail pick, another garnishment, are a nice complement to this already decadent drink. If you're gonna splurge, you might as well dive all the way in and add the truffles, right? I went with Lindt Chocolate Truffles, both dark and white chocolate. Once I figured out there were holes on each side of the truffles where Lindt fill the insides, I used the indentations to stick the pick through. It worked beautifully.

How to make the Perfect Chocolate Martini

Shaken or Stirred

One of my favorite things about a chilled martini is 1) how cold it is and 2) the ice shavings that form when the cocktail is shaken. These two achievements occur by using a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Use a cocktail jigger and pour in two ounces each of vodka, dark chocolate liqueur, and Irish cream then close up the shaker.

How to Shake a Cocktail. With both hands hold each end of the shaker and raise it above your shoulder at 90 degrees and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds until you feel the stainless steel frost over.

Strain the chocolate martini into your chocolate-swirled martini glasses. Garnish with the Lindt chocolate truffles and serve right away while the drink is still chilled.

Can you make this Chocolate Martini Recipe ahead of time for a larger group?

Definitely. You can make this ahead if you're serving more than a couple of people. Multiply the liquor by however many guests you are planning to serve. Combine the liquor into a large pitcher with a lid and store it in the refrigerator. Give yourself plenty of time beforehand though for it to sit and chill.

You can also garnish your martini glasses with the chocolate swirl and chill them in the refrigerator or freezer as well. The glasses actually look very pretty frosty when you pour the martini into them.

If you're looking for a luxurious dessert cocktail, look no further. This chocolate martini is elegant enough to serve at a fancy dinner party but simple enough to enjoy with a friend on a lazy weekend evening.

Those Lindt truffles are amazing as a garnish to this cocktail, Kristy - what a fantastic idea! This looks like something I would find at a restaurant for a lot of money...but it's easy to make at home! Is it 5:00 yet? This would be a great way to celebrate the weekend...or any day.
